On Monday November 23rd, 2009, Sign Productions, Inc. broke ground on a new 83,000 square foot facility located at I-380 and Walford Road in SW Cedar Rapids. This modern new facility has been designed specifically for efficient manufacturing of the wide variety of custom architectural signage fabricated by Sign Productions for its customers across the United States.
Since a flood in the summer of 2008 destroyed one of the company’s three manufacturing plants and most of its corporate offices, Sign Productions has conducted its Iowa operations from various facilities located in Marion, Iowa. The Company’s current headquarters are located at 3335 Seventh Avenue in Marion, and the Company also operates its Grant Sign Division from a manufacturing facility in the Madison, Wisconsin area. Sign Productions became a 100% employee owned ESOP business in September of 2007.
“Our employees-owners, and many of our partners throughout the Corridor, have worked extremely hard to make this new building and our flood recovery project possible. He also noted that “Not only will we be able to operate as a cohesive unit in this new facility, but we will have the capacity and access to the technologies that will allow us to lead our industry.”
Primus Construction is the General Contractor for the new Cedar Rapids project which is targeted for completion in the summer of 2010, and nearly all of the work on this new facility will be performed by companies from Eastern Iowa. Once the new facility is occupied it will mark the first time that all of Sign Production’s Iowa personnel will be under one roof since the 2008 flood.
Despite the challenges involved with their recovery from the flood of 2008, Sign Productions has grown to become one of the Midwest’s largest sign companies over the past 25 years, and was recently honored by the Corridor Business Journal as one of the Top 15 Fastest Growing Companies in the Corridor. The Company, which specializes in the design, fabrication and installation of custom architectural and way-finding signage for customers across the United States, serves a variety of markets including retail (shopping malls), health care (hospitals and clinics), financial institutions (banks and credit unions), casinos and restaurants.
